He died of wounds on the 4th February 1916, aged 39.

George, a paper carrier, aged 15, was the son of William, a farm worker, and Mary Hirons, who lived at Longbridge Cottage, Sherbourne. George had an older brother, William and three sisters, Louisa, Ada and Lucy. At the time of his death he lived in Warwick with his wife, Annie Matilda (nee Chambers) and two sons.

Decorations received, Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.

He is buried in the Chipilly Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.
