Hareway Lane

This is an old Anglo Saxon Road, as the name shows, coming from the Anglo Saxon word Herewag, or military road. Here, or Heer is the Anglo Saxon word for an armed host. Herewag or Herepath describe a series of routes across the country built in the 9th century by King Alfred, in his fight against the Danes. These well-made roads were widely used by ordinary travellers, drovers and carters.
