Barford Friendly Society
Annual Accounts from 1881 to 1905 (not all years)
Kirsty Healey
A remarkable series of printed annual statements for the Barford Friendly Society. This self-help group provided sick pay and death benefits for its members at a time when to fall ill could mean starvation for you and your family.
For each year the accounts show the names of men who received payments, for sickness or for death of a wife. In some years the society paid for a doctor.
The society shows a healthy set of investments including Barford Gas Works at 4%
