He was killed in action at Lyssenthoek on 25th April 1918, aged 22.

William, a journeyman baker, was the eldest son of William Junior, a miller, and Hannah Carter who lived in Church Street. He had an older sister Mabel and two brothers, Leslie and Ernest.

Decorations received, British War Medal, Victory Medal.

He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
